27 nostalgic photographs of Tunstall by Bert Bentley

In the early 1960s, Stoke-on-Trent Archive Services commissioned local photographer Bert Bentley to document the changing face of the city. During that time the landscape of the city was changing with the demolition of old factories, public houses and rows upon rows of terraced streets in the council’s ‘slum clearance’ programme. In 2016, the archive service within Hanley Library allowed The Sentinel access to this vast collection in order to digitise the images, most of which hadn’t been seen for nearly 50 years, for future generations.
