71 new cases of Covid-19 confirmed across Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire


Another 71 cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed across Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire in the latest daily update from the government.

The latest coronavirus figures – more than double the 34 confirmed in yesterday’s update for the area – mean there have now been 6,537 cases confirmed across the county since the start of the pandemic.

A total of 26 of the new cases were in Stoke-on-Trent, bringing the total in the city to 1,896 since the start of the pandemic.

Stoke-on-Trent remains on the national watchlist.

There were 45 new confirmed cases across the rest of Staffordshire, meaning there have now been 4,641 across the county outside the city.

Six of the new cases in Staffordshire were in Newcastle-under-Lyme, five in the Staffordshire Moorlands and four in Stafford Borough.

Another 24 cases were also confirmed across the border in Cheshire East – with the total there now at 2,609.

  • Stoke-on-Trent:     1,896   (up 26 from yesterday)
  • Staffordshire Moorlands:     450    (up five from yesterday)
  • Newcastle Borough:    931    (up six from yesterday)
  • Stafford Borough:     683     (up four from yesterday)
  • Staffordshire County (all Staffordshire authorities – including those in the south of the county – excluding Stoke-on-Trent):     4,641     (up 45 from yesterday)
  • Cheshire East:     2,609     (up 24 from yesterday)

Deaths with Covid-19 at local hospital trusts as of September 18:

The Government said that as of 9am on Friday, there had been a further 4,322 lab-confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK. Overall, 385,936 cases have been confirmed.

It also said a further 27 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Friday. This brings the UK total to 41,732.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies show there have now been 57,500 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.
