Another North Staffordshire cricket club calls off games after player tests positive for coronavirus

Knypersley Cricket club have called off today’s North Staffs and South Cheshire League fixtures after one of their players tested positive for coronavirus.

The Tunstall Road club took swift action following the outcome of the player’s test and released a statement confirming the decision.

Their first team were due to play Wood Lane, while the seconds were scheduled to take on Stafford.

The Knypersley statement read: “We regret that we have had to concede both our games today against @woodlanecc and @staffordcc because of a positive Covid 19 test with one of our players.

“We have made the decision as a precautionary measure to keep people safe.”

Knypersley are the second NSSCL club to be hit by the coronavirus pandemic after two Barlaston players tested positive.

The Barlaston players are understood to have contracted the virus during a trip away from the local area.

They played their matches last Saturday, but called off their Stone League match on Sunday. Both of their encounters today are off.

These are the first cases to affect local cricket since the recreational game was given the green light to return in July.

The NSSCL opted to play an 11-game season and there are four matches remaining in the current campaign.
