Armed police called out as gunshots heard on Stoke-on-Trent estate

Armed police were called to a Stoke-on-Trent estate after residents reported hearing gunshots.

Officers were sent to the scene off Whitfield Road, Ball Green, at around 5.30pm today (May 24).

But following a search of the area it was confirmed that the noise was actually a farmer on his fields who was believed to be scaring off birds.

That incident came at around the same time police carrying guns were also seen in both Colley Road, Pittshill, and nearby Community Drive, Smallthorne.

StokeonTrentLive is awaiting a statement on that incident.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “Armed officers attended a location just off Whitfield Road following reports of a gun being fired.

“Officers have attended to investigate and discovered it was a farmer in a field at the back of the premises.”

We will bring you more on the Pittshill incident as soon as we get it.
