Armed police called out in Stoke-on-Trent after ‘men seen with weapons’



Armed police were called out after a member of the public reported seeing men with weapons in Stoke-on-Trent.

Officers carrying guns and sniffer dogs carried out a search of the Hanford area of the city after being alerted to a potential incident.

However, they were stood down after no suspects could be located.

Now Staffordshire Police have moved to reassure residents that there is ‘no threat to the public’.

A spokesman told StokeonTrentLive: “An armed deployment was sent to the Hanford area this evening after we received a call from a member of the public to a potential disturbance involving weapons.

“A search of the area was undertaken but no-one was located.

“There was no wider threat to the public following a report of persons with weapons.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Staffordshire Police on 101 quoting incident 666 of September 5.
