Armed police descended on a Stoke-on-Trent after a man was seen with an ‘offensive weapon’.
Officers carrying guns were called to Bankfield Road, Meir, after a man was seen acting suspiciously in the area.
Eye-witnesses reported seeing six marked police cars and the dog unit at the scene.
But no arrests were made after police came to the conclusion ‘nothing untoward’ had taken place following the incident at just before 7pm last Thursday (April 6).
It is understood the offensive weapon was, in fact, a stick.
Police have only just released details of the incident.
A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “We were called to Bankfield Road in Meir shortly before 7pm on Thursday 2 April to a report that a man had been seen with an offensive weapon.
“Armed officers arrived on scene to find nothing untoward at the scene. The call was deemed to have been made in good faith.”
