CBeebies host Ben Cajee is the latest presenter of BBC Radio Stoke’s Saturday morning breakfast show.
Ben was on air from 7am to 10am today and has replaced regular presenter and politics expert Sophie Calvert in the hot seat.
It is the latest change at Radio Stoke which has seen its schedules ripped up by the coronavirus pandemic and then been hit by a staffing review which retained all of the station’s biggest names.
It means Louise Stones now only presents an hourly lunchtime show Monday to Friday, Perry Spiller and Liz Ellis no longer broadcast together, and old favourite Den Siegertsz is limited to a Sunday afternoon slot.
The new Saturday breakfast show runs until March 27.
Ben – who lives in Alsager – hit the national headlines last year when he shared his story of having a black father and a white mother.
Ahead of his first show, Ben said: “This is almost a dream Saturday morning for me – music, chat, talking to loads of different people about the stuff they love, and sport. Can we throw in a flat white too?
“I played cricket for Staffordshire under-10s about a million years ago so I’m looking forward to hearing how people are keeping themselves fit, active and entertained. And we’ll hopefully do some entertaining ourselves, with interactive features, games and even a few celebrity guests.”
Station editor Anne Reevell said: “It’s great to be welcoming Ben to Saturday mornings on BBC Radio Stoke. He’ll bring brilliant energy to the weekend line-up.
“The new show adds to Radio Stoke’s great sports coverage and kick starts the weekend with a taste of the many leisure and sport activities happening locally in Staffordshire and South Cheshire.”
