Bournemouth check out former Arsenal star ahead of Stoke City clash

Stoke City’s first opponents of 2021, AFC Bournemouth, have been running the rule over former Arsenal and England midfielder Jack Wilshere.

Wilshere, who had a loan spell with the Cherries four years ago, called manager Jason Tindall to ask if he could train with the Dorset club.

The 28-year-old has been a free agent since leaving West Ham United in the summer.

There have been no talks over a contract so far, although that hasn’t been ruled out if the midfielder can prove his fitness following an injury-blighted career.

However, Tindall has warned the Cherries are “not really in a position to spend money” in January, reported the Dorset Echo.

Tindall, whose side are fourth in the Championship ahead of Saturday night’s clash at the bet365 Stadium, added: “If we were to strengthen the group it would be to maybe be creative or to see what happens in the window.

“I always think with any transfer window, you can never foresee anything happening because you don’t know, something could happen that is completely left field that you are not expecting.

“Then before you know it, the situation completely changes.

“Looking at my squad now, am I happy with the squad that I’ve got? Yes, very happy.

“If there’s an opportunity to bring in players that I feel will make a difference and help us for the second half of the season, and we are able to do it, will I look at it? Most certainly.

“It’s just a matter of seeing what happens in this window – but I’ve certainly not got any money really to go out there and strengthen the team.”
