A brewery has announced that it has quit a North Staffordshire village pub to allow for a ‘fresh approach’.
Joule’s Brewery has withdrawn from The Mainwaring Arms, in Whitmore, after admitting that their ‘plans did not come to fruition’.
It closed for a refurbishment in January, but has not reopened since.
Now brewery bosses have confirmed that they have left the pub and returned it back to the Whitmore Estate.
And say the new custodians will announce their plans in ‘due course’.
In a post on their Facebook page, the brewery stated: “We are both pleased, and also saddened, to announce we will be withdrawing from The Mainwaring Arms.
“Over the last nine months, we have been in discussions with the Estate about the best offer for the pub and we both concluded a fresh approach was needed.
“In due course, the estate and the new incumbent will announce their plans. We will leave that for them, as and when they are ready, but we are pleased to say that they are about the best out there. We are sure they will make the Mainwaring a great success.
“We are of course saddened to be leaving, we have enjoyed our time and very much enjoyed working with the estate. We are disappointed that our plans did not come to fruition as we had hoped.
“In any event, it’s the future that matters most and we wish the new custodians the very best of luck as they take the reigns of what is such a very special pub with a unique character.
“We would also thank all our customers, our team who have always done their very best and especially the estate for their tremendous courtesy and support to us over the last five years.
“Dates and plans will be announced shortly, keep an eye on this page as we will repost any news, we will also pass this page to the new operators, should they wish to use it – so watch this space.”

Brand Director at Joule’s Brewery Vicky Colclough says the decision was made in early March.
She said: “We can confirm that Joule’s Brewery returned the Mainwaring Arms back to the Whitmore Estate after four years of trading.
“The Brewery and Estate worked closely together to arrange this in early March and we are excited to see what shape the Mainwaring takes in the future under it’s new stewardship.
“We would like to thank all our customers for their loyalty and support.”
StokeonTrentLive approached the Whitmore Estate for a statement, however they were unavailable for comment.
