Police officers have arrested two ‘bungling burglars’ after one accidentally sat on their phone and dialled 999 during a raid.
The pair were believed to be burgling a property in the Middleport area last night when police officers received what they believed was a ‘suspicious phone call’.
It soon became apparent to the call handlers they were listening to two men in the process of burgling the property.
The ‘unlucky’ duo soon found themselves in custody as the Staffordshire Police control room heard the officers turn up and arrest the men.
Chief Inspector John Owen of Staffordshire Police said: “I think we have arrested the world’s unluckiest burglars.
“Whilse committing a burglary one of the bungling burglars has accidentally sat on his phone and dialled 999.
“We recieve a call detailing all of their antics up to the point of hearing our patrols arrive to arrest them.”
Staffordshire Police confirmed the two men remained in custody.
A spokesman said: “Officers responded to a suspicious phone call just before 9.10pm on Wednesday, January 6.
“Subsequently Staffordshire Police dispatched officers to the Middleport area of Stoke-on-Trent.
“Two men – aged 49 and 42 both from Stoke-on-Trent – were arrested on suspicion of burglary. They remain in custody. “
