Former Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam reckons that Marko Arnautovic was the best player he played with during his spell in the Potteries.
The Scot, who made 179 appearances for Stoke over the course of an eight-year spell, played with the Austrian at the Bet365 Stadium between 2013 and 2017 after he was signed by Mark Hughes from Werder Bremen.
Arnautovic, currently playing for Shanghai SIPG in the Chinese Super League, was the club’s top scorer in the 2015-16 campaign before he left for Premier League rivals West Ham United in 2017.
It’s high praise indeed from Adam, who played with some particularly talented individuals during his time in a Stoke shirt – Bojan Krkic and Xherdan Shaqiri to name but a couple.
Holding a Q&A with supporters and followers on his Instagram account, Adam pointed to Arnautovic when asked who the best player he played with during his time at Stoke was, and described his former teammate as being ‘unplayable’.
Adam did, though, offer honourable mentions for Bojan, Peter Crouch and Glen Johnson alongside Arnautovic when also asked who the most technically gifted player at Stoke was during his extended stay at the Bet365 Stadium.
That side under Hughes posted three successive 9th placed finishes in the top flight after the Welshman replaced compatriot Tony Pulis at the helm in the summer of 2013.
