Chosen Mate wins Grand Annual Handicap Chase as race favourite romps home ahead of Eclair De Beaufeu and Us and Them

  • Chosen Mate won the Grand Annual Handicap Chase on Friday afternoon 
  • Davy Russell’s Chosen Mate was the 7/2 favourite just ahead of Greaneteen
  • And he delivered as he sprung from the back of the field to romp home to win

Chosen Mate was victorious in the sixth of Friday’s races at Cheltenham after seeing off Eclair De Beaufeu and Us and Them in a packed field to take home the Grand Annual Handicap Chase. 

Gino Trail lead early ahead of Croco Bay and Maracduja, with Greaneteen lurking in the middle of the field.  Chosen Mate spent large portions at the back of the pack but spring into life at the final fence to romp home to victory. 

The seven-year-old continued Ireland’s domination at Cheltenham today while adding to his own fine form after winning at Gowran.

Chosen Mate was victorious in the penultimate of Friday’s races in the Grand Annual Chase

As the final fence approached, their were plenty still in contention but jockey Davy Russell kept his cool as he raised to mount and lead his horse home.

Eclair De Beaufeu and Us and Them could only watch on from a distance as Chosen Mate galloped over the line.
