Sam Clucas is in an air-boot this evening as Stoke City’s injury list was done no favours by Middlesbrough.
Clucas was caught by a bad foul by Middlesbrough midfielder Sam Morsy in the opening minutes of Stoke’s 1-0 win at the bet365 Stadium.
Danny Batth and Nick Powell were also injured by naughty challenges yet Neil Warnock still gave referee Jeremy Simpson both barrels, having to be separated from the officials by stewards at full-time.
Michael O’Neill had enough players in his treatment room before this afternoon, particularly given the amount of fixtures being played in December.
He said: “Sam is probably the one which gives us the most concern at this minute in time. It happened very early in the game. He’s in a boot at the minute so we’ll see how he is in the next 24 to 48 hours.
“Danny Batth hurt his knee after his collision. It looked a poor challenge if I’m honest. It takes a lot for Danny to come off so we’ll see how he is.
“And Nick Powell had a number of knocks – and had taken a number on Wednesday night as well. We’ll have to see how he is.
“With Steven Fletcher and John Obi Mikel and Jordan Thompson and Joe Allen we’re nearly in double figures for players that are absent.
“But the squad is showing its character to make sure the team that goes on the pitch is ready to fight for three points.”
