Cordon remains in place on Stoke-on-Trent street as police continue to question man on suspicion of murder


Detectives are continuing to question a man on suspicion of murder following the death of a woman in Stoke-on-Trent yesterday (Friday, November 6).

Emergency services were called to Leigh Street, Burslem, at around 4.45pm after reports the 29-year-old had been seriously injured.

Sadly the woman died a short time later.

A 39-year-old man, who police say is from Bournemouth, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody today.

Police remain at the scene and a cordon is also in place.

June Cartwright, who lives near to the scene, said: “This is such an awful thing to have happened and the community is in shock. My thoughts are with the woman’s family.”

A post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out this weekend to formally identify the woman.
