Coronavirus: Four more deaths at Royal Stoke and County hospitals in 24 hours

Another four people have sadly died at the Royal Stoke and County hospitals to take the death toll to 22.

Public Health England have released the latest figures for the UK, which shows another 568 people have died nationally in just 24 hours.

The national death toll now stands at 2,921. A total of 33,718 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the UK, with 433 across Stoke-on-Trent (61) and Staffordshire (372).

There are 102 confirmed cases in Cheshire East.

Today’s jump in the figures means more than 1,000 have died in hospital from the virus in the last two days.

Of the latest deaths, four were recorded by the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, which runs both the Royal Stoke University Hospital and Stafford’s County Hospital.

Thirteen deaths have been recorded at hospitals run by the Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which includes Crewe’s Leighton Hospital.

The figures do not include those who have died from coronavirus outside hospital (which is likely to be an increasingly significant number).
