Coroner names man found dead after ‘medical emergency’ at Stoke-on-Trent home

An inquest has been opened into the death of a man found lying at the bottom of his stairs.

Emergency services were called to the home of Alan Mountford, in Chatsworth Drive, Norton Green, on August 11.

The 50-year-old could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Senior coroner Andrew Barkley said: “The deceased was found at the bottom of the stairs. A post-mortem examination revealed a cause of death which might suggest an unnatural death. For that reason an inquest into his death is now formally opened.”

West Midlands Ambulance Service sent two ambulances to the scene.

A spokesman said: “We were called at 10.05pm on August 11 to reports of a medical emergency at an address in Chatsworth Drive. Two ambulances and a paramedic officer attended.

“On arrival, crews found a man. Sadly, nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”
