Coroner names man found dead after three police cars and two ambulances descended on his North Staffordshire home

Police and paramedics discovered the body of a 51-year-old man at his home.

They had been called to John Grindlay’s May Bank address after his ex-partner had raised the alarm.

Three police cars and two ambulances went to the Alexandra Road property at 8.40am on May 21.

Now an inquest has been opened and adjourned following Mr Grindlay’s death.

North Staffordshire assistant coroner Sarah Murphy said: “Mr Grindlay’s ex-partner said they had been in the garden until approximately 10pm talking with a friend on FaceTime. They went to bed at 10.30pm in separate rooms.

“The next morning she went to his room and could not open the door. She alerted the police and ambulance.

“On arrival they managed to get in and found Mr Grindlay. Sadly he was confirmed deceased.”

Staffordshire Police are not treating Mr Grindlay’s death as suspicious.
