Damaged overhead power lines causing ‘major disruption’ on railway

Trains between London Euston railway station and North Staffordshire and South Cheshire due to ‘a major fault’ with the signalling system.

Long delays are reported on services connecting the Potteries and surrounding areas with the capital this afternoon (Tuesday March 10).

National Rail said:  “Following a major fault with the signalling system between Milton Keynes and Rugby / Northampton, some lines have reopened.

“Avanti West Coast and London Northwestern Railway services are now able to run to and from London Euston, however, journeys may be delayed by up to 2 hours or cancelled for the rest of the day.

“Customers who are planning to travel this afternoon are encouraged to travel later this evening or use alternative rail routes. Trains will be much busier than usual.”

Avanti West Coast said:  “Disruption is expected for the rest of the day and customers are advised to expect delays and cancellations. Trains will be busier than usual.

“Customers who are planning to travel this afternoon are encouraged to travel later this evening or use alternative rail routes where Avanti West Coast tickets will be accepted.”
