Manager Michael O’Neill showed just the two changes to his Stoke starting 11 for today’s big clash against Hull.
And on the bench, for the first time since his calf injury on December 28, was club captain Ryan Shawcross.
Here’s how we rated them today…
BUTLAND: Fat chance with the goal on a day when he had precious little else to do 6
SMITH: One exquisite second-half cross was in keeping with his general attacking presence on the day 7
MARTINS INDI: Will be among those asking questions on the goal, but otherwise little to knock him off his stride 7
BATTH: One mistake he rectified himself, otherwise pretty routine day’s work at centre half 7
CHESTER: No evident hangover after that penalty the previous week as he anticipated most of what his old club had to offer 7
THOMPSON: Goes about his business in a thoroughly efficient manner and did everything asked by his manager 8
ALLEN: Such a sad exit – and what a miss he will be 7
CLUCAS: Put in a huge shift for his team, thoroughly deserving his goals, and had the dignity not to over celebrate in front of his old fans 8
INCE: Some nice moments with Smith on the right, not least on opening goal, just a pity he couldn’t have added a goal to his day’s work 7
CAMPBELL: Dead-eye Dick from the penalty spot and put the wind up Hull every time he was on the ball or giving chase 8
POWELL: Always a threat in and around the goal while producing plenty of useful work in other areas, like a wonderfully-disguised pass late on before bagging his second of the day 8
OAKLEY-BOOTHE (for Allen,46): Couldn’t have handpicked a better occasion to make his debut and eased himself in pretty impressively ahead of his role in fifth goal 7
GREGORY (for Powell,88): Late run out in winning cause 5
VOKES (for Campbell,88): Ditto after being left out before kick off 5
Subs not used: Davies, Edwards, Shawcross, Collins.
