‘Debatable decisions’ – Stoke City player ratings as comeback falls just short against Norwich

Stoke City gave themselves a mountain to climb when they fell three behind against Norwich – but almost did it. Here are the player ratings from another entertaining evening at the bet365.

Bursik: Quick off his line and beaten by two excellent finishes in the first half and rounded by Pukki in the second. 6

Smith: Put in a trio of crosses as he tried to offer more attacking but made way in half-time reshuffle. 5

Fox: Got forward to put in cross that set up Tyrese Campbell’s first goal. 6

Souttar: Keen to come out of back line to nick the ball back – and dinked handy balls forward. 6

Batth: Header well saved in second half but Stoke struggled to keep Pukki under a tight enough leash. 6

Mikel: Drove Stoke’s press and managed to bulldoze into the box a couple of times himself. 7

Clucas: High energy in central midfield and terrific delivery from corner to set up goal for Collins. 6

Powell: A nuisance in that final third and hit the crossbar with first-half header. 7

Tymon: Needs to offer more glimpses of his pace and skill to grab a regular starting shirt. 5

Campbell: Another goal and this one a rare header. A real threat all game. 7

Fletcher: A big loss to Stoke after he careered into advertising board after having good battle with Hanley. 7

Substitutes

Gregory (for Fletcher, 35): Unlucky to have goal chalked out at the death for rather soft ‘foul’ on keeper. 6

Collins (for Smith, 46): Came on at right-back and goal gave Stoke hope. 7

Ince (for Tymon, 46): First proper sighting of the season with a full half but couldn’t grab himself a headline. 6

Vokes (for Batth, 79): Left-foot volley just wide as he hunted equaliser. 6

Not used: Nna Noukeu, Chester, Brown, Oakley-Boothe, Cousins.

Norwich: Krul, Aarons, Hanley, Gibson, Sorensen, Tettey, Skipp, Stipermann, Buendia, Martin, Pukki. Subs: McGovern, Bardern, Zimmermann, McAlear, Rupp, Vrancic, Placheta, Dickson-Peters.

Referee

Geoff Eltringham (County Durham): Dramatic evening with a lot of debatable decisions, not least his call to rule out what would have been late equaliser. 3
