A North Staffordshire hotel has put Stoke-on-Trent firmly on the map after coming a respectable second in a popular television show.
The Potbank Aparthotel, in Stoke, has featured on Channel 4’s Four in a Bed throughout the week.
The show featured the hotel’s project manager Ashley Booth and his partner Jennifer Ellis, who works as the receptionist, and saw them compete against three other B&Bs for the title of best value B&B of the week.
Earlier in the week viewers saw the young couple host Trevor from Blackpool, Cara and Jamie from Willaston in Cheshire and ‘game players’ Helen and Gary from County Durham.
And, although Ash and Jen were marked down by Gary and Helen for having a bath in a room they said had no curtains and could be looked upon by people living nearby, Ash explained to them the room had blackout windows.
Despite that, the couple from County Durham underpaid their bill by a third, with Jen telling them: “That’s a drastic underpayment. I respectfully disagree.”
Last week, one of the guest complained about the oatcakes at breakfast with one guest saying they were disappointing’ describing them as ‘a bit bland and would’ve been better with spinach and peppers’.
In this afternoon’s show, two other slight underpayments from the other competitors meant the Stoke-on-Trent couple received a bill average of 80 per cent.
However, Trevor – who owns a B&B in Blackpool – received a bill average of 68 per cent after Gary and Helen again underpaid by a third which Trevor wouldn’t accept and Cara and Jamie finished with a bill average of just 63 per cent after refusing payment from Gary and Helen, who again underpaid.
The underpayments by Gary and Helen resulted in them winning the competition with an average bill payment of 97 per cent.
And despite a bit of animosity at the result – with Cara storming out – Ash said: “I’m quite happy coming in second considering everything that’s gone on.
Jen agreed saying: “Definitely. I’ll take second place and run with it.”
The Potbank Aparthotel is owned by Jeff Nash.
