A driver was taken to hospital after being trapped in his car following an accident which closed a North Staffordshire road for three hours.
The accident happened shortly before 8pm yesterday on the A53 Newcastle Road, near Loggerheads.
The man – who is from Market Drayton – was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital after being cut free from the wreckage of his Ford Fiesta.
A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: “We were called shortly before 8pm to reports of a one-vehicle collision. One man – the driver – was trapped and had to be extricated by colleagues from the fire service. The road was closed for around three hours.

“He was taken to hospital with what were believed to be life-threatening injuries, however, his injures have since been described as ‘nasty’.”
