A motorist remains in custody this evening after being caught with suspect drugs on a North Staffordshire street.
Officers from the Staffordshire Police Dogs and Armed Response Vehicle (ARV) unit stopped the driver in the Porthill area of Newcastle-under-Lyme earlier today (April 25).
They have now issued a stark warning to families as criminals turn to North Staffordshire’s roads during the UK-wide coronavirus lockdown.
A Staffs Police Dogs & ARV spokesman said: “While most are staying at home, the criminals continue to use Staffordshire’s roads.
“One in custody for drug-drive and possession of suspected class A drugs in the Newcastle Police area.
“The advice is still the same, stay home, save lives, and protect our NHS and other emergency services.”
The UK has been on lockdown since late March with families only supposed to leave their home for work, essential shopping and for an hour of daily exercise.
