Family-run hotel set to close after nearly 40 years due to ‘devastating’ impact of coronavirus

A family-run hotel is to close after nearly 40 years.

The owners of Hunters Lodge Hotel, in Crewe, announced their intention to sell earlier this week.

The hotel, acquired by its current owners in 1981 and part of the same family for 39 years is blaming the coronavirus pandemic as the main reason behind the closure.

Posting on social media, owner Andy Panayi wrote: “It is with great sadness that Nicky and I have made the decision to sell Hunters Lodge Hotel

“To all our wonderful guests thank you for your support over the years.

“Unfortunately the COVID pandemic is having a devastating impact on our industry and we do not want to risk losing all.

“Nicky and I took the decision to ensure we are in a position to do the right thing by our wonderful staff, guests with forthcoming bookings and local suppliers.

“The hotel has been in our family for 39 years and has obviously been a massive part of our lives. The local community has been fantastic and we have been honoured to serve and be part of that.

“Once again thank you for your wonderful support over the years.

The family-run Hotel in Crewe set in 16 acres of delightful gardens and open countryside, with 57 Bedrooms, two function rooms and caters for up to 160 guests, reports CheshireLive.

After the closure was announced, many people took to social media to express their sadness at the news and share some of their favourite memories at the hotel.

One user said: “Such sad news wishing you all the best for the future and totally understand.

“We’ve had so many fantastic memories made here from my brother working in the kitchen for years in the ’80s, our wedding reception back in 1995, our daughters 18th, sons 21st, my sister’s wedding and many final goodbye wakes.
