Police have been called in to investigate after dead rabbits were found hanging in a tree.
The corpses were strung up by their necks close to Fanny Pool in Birchenwood Country Park, near Kidsgrove, yesterday morning (May 23).
One of the lifeless bunnies had even had its ears cut off.
The grisly scene was spotted by a mum and her daughter on their lockdown walk.
Speaking about the shocking incident on Facebook, their friend said: “They had taken a walk in the woods at Birchenwood and were devastated to see rabbits hanging from trees with one rabbit had its ear cut off. It’s disgusting to know people can be so vile.
“She took a photo but it’s to sick for me put on here.”
Both the RSPCA and Staffordshire Police have been asked to look into the incident.
News of the sickening and senseless killings has enraged residents in the town.
One said: “They need stringing up themselves for that. It’s disgusting. If they were caught for eating fair enough, that’s just sadistic.”
A second added: “How disgusting! Also, if they’ve cut the animal’s ear off they’re more than likely walking around with knives which is worrying too.
“If they can easily use it on an animal to that extent, there’s nothing saying they wouldn’t use it on a person.”
Another man said: “I live right by here. There was loud talking in the woods at about 11.30pm and the amount of beer cans left is shocking.
“There’s also been a fire in the woods too, it was still burning in the morning. The pool is full of floating beer bottles. It’s like a local refuse tip down there.”
Another resident who has spotted anti-socil behaviour in the park said: “We have been walking around there a lot recently and there is a lot of bottles in and around the pool.
“They are probably drinking at night. There’s also a lot more rubbish since fishing started again.
“I’m just glad I’ve not seen the rabbits. What a horrific and cruel thing to do. What sort of person does that?”
