‘Fighting for each other’ – Stoke City fans thrilled with battling win over Blackburn Rovers

Stoke City mounted a brilliant rearguard action to earn a hard-fought 1-0 win at home to Blackburn Rovers.

Nick Powell headed the Potters in front from close range on seven minutes.

Barry Douglas hit the post on 23 minutes as Blackburn began to step up the pressure.

Adam Armstrong saw an attempted chip over the on-rushing Joe Bursik palmed away early in the second half.

More late chances went begging as Blackburn were unable to make the resolute Stoke defence crack under the sustained pressure.

Here’s a look at what Stoke fans made it of it on Facebook.

Brian Austin : Personally don’t care to much how we play, 3 points is the main thing and that’s what we got, well done Stoke

Jonny Newby: Class goal, gritty performance against a pushing Blackburn side!! Just need a few play makers in our side and a striker who ain’t afraid off getting at them! Great result Just need to back it up now with a win!

Ewan McLean: Battling performance fighting for each other… Another clean sheet and the back four as a unit superb

Craig Chidlow : That is more than just a 1:0 win, it means that we are challenging at the top of the table when the transfer window opens, provided nothing stupid happens over the Christmas fixtures. Hopefully if we are looking to loan an experienced striker we will be a more attractive proposition than if we were lower mid table or worse.

Sam Copeland: Cracking win in torrential conditions against a good Blackburn team. Another clean sheet too. Brilliant

Rob Thomson: Great result, very gritty performance defensively, desperately need to get the creative players back and we’ll push on massively!!
