Stoke City have recorded a fine win over Manchester City in the new under-17s Premier League Cup.
The tournament has been launched to take the place this season of the under-18s Premier League Cup – the competition that saw Stoke and Man City meet in the final just before the first national lockdown in the spring.
Stoke slipped to a defeat to Blackburn in their first group game but goals from Emre Tezgel and Ryanjay Malbon secured a 2-0 victory over Man City.
They now have one group game remaining, a decider against Sheffield United – who have beaten Man City and lost to Blackburn so far.
The winners from seven regionalised groups and the best runner-up will advance to the knock-out round. Quarter-finals, semis and final will all be played as one-leg ties.
