Firefighters called to car blaze on M6

The M6 motorway was closed this afternoon after firefighters were called to a car fire in Cheshire.

The vehicle had caught fire on the southbound carriageway of the motorway between junction 18 and junction 17 earlier today.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said:  “Firefighters attended to reports of a car on fire on the M6 southbound between junction 18 to junction 17.

“The black car was located in lane two with smoke seen coming from the bonnet.

“Crews used a hose reel and dry powder to put out the fire and isolated the battery.
