Firefighters spent two hours tackling an open air blaze in a South Cheshire field.

Crews from Congleton and Macclesfield raced to Church Lane in Congleton shortly after 1.30pm yesterday (August 17).

The fire measured 50m by 20m.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “At 1.30pm firefighters were dispatched to reports of a fire in the open on Church Lane, Congleton.

“On arrival firefighters from Macclesfield and Congleton found a fire in a field measuring approximately 50 metres by 20 metres.

“Firefighters used hose reel jets to extinguish the fire and were detained at the scene for around two hours.”
