A former Staffordshire Police officer is set to appear before court tomorrow charged with misconduct in public office.
Paul Baron, a former constable, will appear before magistrates in Birmingham on Friday.
The 53-year-old has been charged in connection with an alleged attempt to form ‘an inappropriate relationship with a woman he had met during the course of his duties’.
The charge follows an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) after Staffordshire Police referred the allegations to them.
An IOPC spokesman said: “Our investigation began in February last year (2019) following a referral from the force and following the completion of our enquiries in December we submitted a file to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to consider charges.
“The CPS made the decision to charge Mr Baron in May, at which time he was no longer serving with the force.
“He is due to make a first appearance at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (Friday 4 September).”
