Former Stoke City coach lands new job close to home

Former Stoke City Academy coach Will Ryder has joined Crewe Alexandra.

He will take up the role of head of coaching, replacing James Collins, who joined Wolves before Christmas.

Ryder worked in the Potters youth set-up for three years until 2014 before joining Wigan Athletic.

Since then, he has worked for Morecambe as well as serving as assistant manager at non league sides Rushall Olympic and Curzon Ashton.

Ryder will take over from Collins, who is now the Under-23s boss at Premier League side Wolves.

Former Liverpool, Manchester City and Wolves winger Mark Kennedy had been in charge of the team temporarily.

But Collins beat him and a number of other high-class applicants to the job.
