Former Stoke City striker James Alabi is one of five players released by Port Vale’s League Two rivals Leyton Orient.

The O’s have become the latest to announce their retained list after League Two clubs agreed to cut short their season.

The players released are Alabi, Arthur Janata, Dale Gorman and Matt Harold.

Alabi, aged 25 came through the youth system at Stoke and had loans at Scunthorpe, Mansfield, Forest Green Rovers and Accrington before he was signed by Ipswich in 2015.

He moved on to Chester and, after scoring 18 goals in the 2016/17 campaign, was signed by Tranmere. He joined Orient in 2018 and was part of the side that won promotion from the National League in his first season. However, he was loaned out to Eastleigh this last season.

While five players have been released, Orient have offered new deals to Marvin Ekpiteta, Jobi McAnuff, Ruel Sotiriou and Shadrach Ogie.

Orient say: “The club would like to place on record its gratitude to those leaving at the end of their contract, and will always recognise their input to our title winning season.”

David Amoo, Shaun Brisley, Rhys Browne, Tom Conlon, Mark Cullen, Cristian Montano and Nathan Smith have all been offered new deals.

The players released are Will Atkinson, Callum Evans, Kieran Kennedy, Ryan Lloyd, Jonny Maddison and Jordan Macfarlane-Archer.
