Four arrested after armed police called to raid on Stoke-on-Trent shop


Four men have been arrested after a raid on a Stoke-on-Trent shop last night.

Armed police were called to One Stop Shop on Community Drive, Smallthorne, shortly before 9pm.

One person was taken to hospital after being hit by a car during the incident.

Firearms officers were sent to the scene due to reports offenders were carrying weapons.

The men, who are aged 19, 20, 26 and 38, were arrested on suspicion of violence against the person.

All four, who police say are from the North Staffordshire area, remain in custody.

Detective Inspector Scott McGrath, of Staffordshire Police, said: “We’re appealing for anyone with information to assist us as we continue our investigation. This was a violent attack which led to the victim receiving medical treatment.”

“Anyone with information is urged to contact 101 referring to incident 717 of 8 September.”

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed they had taken one person to hospital after they were hit by a car.

A spokesman said:  “We were called to reports a person had been hit by a car. 

“We sent one ambulance and a paramedic officer.

“We treated a man who had been in collision with a car at a low speed.

“He had suffered a number of injurues.  He was taken by ambulance to Royal Stoke University Hospital.”
