Four more coronavirus deaths at Royal Stoke as pressure mounts on Dominic Cummings to resign



The coronavirus death toll has increased in the last 24 hours at Stoke-on-Trent’s main hospital.

Latest data released by Public Health England shows there have been 290  deaths at Royal Stoke University Hospital in Hartshill and Stafford’s County Hospital.

The number has increased by four from the 286 deaths announced yesterday.

Five people have lost their lives at the North Staffordshire Combined Trust – which includes the Harplands Hospital.

Meanwhile, the Midlands Partnership Foundation Trust – which operates Haywood Hospital, Cheadle Community Hospital, Leek Moorlands Hospital, Bradwell Community Hospital and others – the figure has remained at six.

At the Mid Cheshire NHS Foundation Trust – which includes Crewe’s Leighton Hospital – 166 people have died having been tested positive for coronavirus.

At the East Cheshire NHS Foundation Trust – which looks after Congleton War Memorial Hospital and Macclesfield District General Hospital – the number of deaths remains at 111.

The total number of deaths in England now stands at 25,691 – with 147 people dying within the last 24 hours across hospitals and care homes.

Patients were aged between 43 and 98 years old.

It comes as Boris Johnson comes under more pressure to take action against senior aide Dominic Cummings.

Boris Johnson’s chief advisor has been accused of breaking the UK’s coronavirus lockdown for a second time.
