Freezing Tesco staff claim they have had to work in coats and gloves because they haven’t had any heating for three weeks.
Till workers at the Uttoxeter branch of the supermarket chain say they have been wrapped up in fleeces, scarves and gloves as wintry weather blows through the front door.
One shopper said: “It is freezing – the poor staff have to wear coats and gloves because the heating doesn’t work and hasn’t worked for three weeks.
“This is a disgrace. The least Tesco could do is bring in blower heaters for their staff.”
All staff are being encouraged to wear “appropriate clothing” and the store has apologised to customers for any inconvenience.
Bosses say they are “prioritising” fixing the heating and an engineer was at the Town Meadows Way store yesterday, February 27.
A Tesco spokesman said: “We’re sorry the Uttoxeter superstore is a bit colder in some parts of the store than usual and are working with the engineers to fix the heating as quickly as possible.”
The spokesman was unable to confirm whether all, or just part, of the heating system was not working.
One shopper said: “It is always cold in there. Today has not been very nice, but with all of the fridges I always think it feels cold in there.”
