Gritters will be out across Cheshire tonight as temperatures look set to drop below zero.
Cheshire East Highways revealed gritters will be on all of the borough’s major routes from 1pm this afternoon (December 31).
They will then treat the roads again at around 3am tomorrow in a bid to treat the areas road network.
It comes after Cheshire – along with nearby Staffordshire – has been hit with a coating of snow over the last three days.
While the council is sending its grit teams out, motorists are being warned some smaller roads will remain untreated.
A Cheshire East Highways spokesman said: “All routes within the Borough are to be treated from 1pm this afternoon.
“Further treatment will take place at 3am tomorrow morning, again across all routes.
“As some minor roads are currently untreated and inclement icy weather is due overnight, please drive with care”
Police officers across Cheshire have also warned motorists to be careful due to the dropping temperatures.
A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “Another day of snow and ice across Cheshire. As we’re now in Tier 4 hopefully fewer of us are travelling.
“But if you are on the roads, please slow down and leave more space and allow more time for your journey.”
