Has Shawcross made it has McClean been recalled? – Stoke City v Middlesbrough team news

Stoke City captain Ryan Shawcross is out of today’s game against Middlesbrough here at a near-deserted bet365 Stadium.

But there are recalls to the team for Tommy Smith and James McClean as manager Michael O’Neill shows three changes in all from the starting 11 at Reading seven days ago.

Shawcross is replaced by Danny Batth in central defence, as he was at half-time at Reading last Saturday, after failing a fitness test on the groin he tweaked at the Madejski Stadium.

Elsewhere, Smith re-claims the right-back berth from Nathan Collins after impressing from the bench against Reading.

And it’s a similar story for McClean as he replaces Tom Ince this afternoon after adding some energy and enthusiasm to the cause as a half-time sub at Reading.

Stoke kick off the game two points in front of a Boro side managed for the first time by Neil Warnock after he replaced Jonathan Woodgate earlier this week.
