Helicopters spotted flying in formation over North Staffordshire ‘on way to film I’m A Celebrity’ – here’s the moment they were caught on camera

Six helicopters spotted flying in formation over North Staffordshire and South Cheshire are believed to have been on their way to film I’m A Celebrity…. Get Me Out Of Here!

Dozens of people took to social media after spotting the choppers cruising in an impressive single file over Kidsgrove, Talke, Alsager, Church Lawton, Crewe, Congleton and Sandbach yesterday afternoon.

Speculation was rife with some suggesting they were MoD helicopters on a training flight and others joked it was Boris Johnson on his way to get a haircut.

However, the most likely theory appears to be the I’m A Celeb as the same helicopters were seen flying in North Wales where filming is due to start at Gwrych Castle.

StokeonTrentLive is awaiting official confirmation.

The helicopters flying in formation

It comes just eight days before the 20th series of the show hosted by Ant and Dec, which of course has been relocated from Australia due to Covid-19 and starts on Sunday, November 15

Former Sentinel photographer Malcolm Hart was among those to film a short clip of the aircraft from near his home in Alsager.

One woman said: “It looks like the helicopters were flying to the castle in Wales where they are filming I’m A Celeb this year. They were possibly transporting celebrities.

“I don’t know for sure though but the front helicopter had cameras attached to it.

“One split away as they got over Talke. It looked like it was filming the other five.”

Another added: “There was one flying separately from them at a short distance as though he was monitoring or filming them.

“There were sex at one point before one went in another direction.”

A third said: “They were private helicopters not military. I tracked them and they circled back and went to Congleton and then over towards Leek.”

And a fourth added: “They were private helicopters from Knutsford. There are rumours it’s for I’m a Celeb but not confirmed but definitely not military. I had them on a flight tracker and they headed over towards Leek and then disappeared.£

Abergele residents Neil and Debbie Roberts had heard the buzzing of the engines and quickly filmed the squadron of aircraft from an open window.

Neil said: “We heard them coming over and the best vantage point to see them was from the back bedroom.

“So we legged it upstairs. My wife was faster than me getting her mobile phone out.”

Neil, aged 64, a lecturer, added: “They came from the Rhyl direction, flew over Gwrych Castle then they banked and went out to sea.

“Then they banked again and came south to the castle and flew off westwards, behind the castle.”

The Roberts’ aren’t sure exactly what the aircraft were doing but believe it was part of the popular TV show.

“It’s hard to tell. They were so slow over the castle. We thought they might be landing but they maintained height and went west.”
