One of North Staffordshire’s much-loved charities is offering to do all of the hard work for you when it comes to taking down your Christmas tree next month.
During the weekend of January 8 to 10, volunteers from Dougie Mac and local businesses will be collecting trees from ST1, ST2, ST3, ST4, ST5, ST6, ST11, ST12 postcodes, which will then be recycled.
Since mid-November, the hospice has already received more than 140 tree collection requests, with donations totalling more than £2,000. The funds will go towards specialist end-of-life care to local patients and their families.
Donna Adams, head of fundraising and the lottery at Dougie Mac, said: “Since all of our traditional fundraising events this year have been cancelled, we’ve had to think of new ways to safely raise funds for the hospice.
“Our Christmas tree collection is the perfect solution, which we hope will be a great success thanks to our fantastic communities and corporate supporters.
“Businesses from across North Staffordshire are also backing the collection and offering vehicle support and volunteers to collect the trees.
“Volunteers from Wheaver Signs, Klarius, Retail Knows Why, Errington Outdoors, Spie Uk, Pinkstones Toyota and Motus Commercials will be collecting trees before they are recycled ready to be turned into compost with the help of Brown Recycling.”
Mitch Brown, sales director at Brown Recycling, added: “We understand just how much Dougie Mac does for our local community – they’re heroes to us – which is why we felt it important to raise money for them with this Christmas tree recycling service.
“With the year that we’ve all just had, if the money we raise ends up putting a smile on someone’s face, then that’s mission accomplished for us.”
Collections must be registered by January 5 at 12pm and trees can be collected from homes, business facilities, schools, churches, and more.
Dougie Mac is still looking for volunteers and vehicle support to help collect the trees. If you have any availability during January 8 to 10, and a suitable vehicle, please get in touch via email email@example.com or call the fundraising team on 01782 344359.
