Horse racing tips TODAY: The best bets for Wetherby and Taunton | Racing | Sport

AFTER another rewarding Cheltenham Festival with seven winners, J P McManus can also pick up some bread and butter prizes at Taunton and Wetherby.

The former French-trained FLOU ARTSISTIQUE (4.00, nap) can take advantage of a lenient mark on his first outing in handicap company.

Admittedly, he needs to improve on his recent outing, beaten 50 lengths by Buzz at Doncaster last month, but this is a considerable drop in grade and the step up in distance will also be in his favour.

His solitary outing in France indicates he is not short of ability when beaten two lengths in a bumper event when under the care of Emmanuel Clayeux, responsible for endless smart performers that make their way to these shores.

McManus can also collect with LASKADINE (3.45, treble) at Weatherby.

Since moving from Nicky Henderson to Ben Haslam the mare has been dropped 10lb by the handicapper.

She was a smart performer for Henderson, beat Faldo at Warwick last year, and Haslam is adept at getting a tune out of the McManus runners that join his Middleham yard.

GLOBAL FAME (2.35, nb) has a simple task in the novice hurdle. He was not disgraced behind the very smart Harry Senior at Chepstow in December.

Kim Bailey, on a roll after his success with Imperial Aura at last week’s Cheltenham Festival, can make it double at the Yorkshire track with COMMODORE BARRY (4.20) and POND ROAD (4.55).

David Bass, who takes the rides on the pair, was unfortunate not to score on Commodore Barry on his penultimate outing.

The gelding was travelling well in the lead before running out at the fifth fence from home. He was not disgraced on his recent run when fourth behind Burbank in a decent contest at Newbury in December.

The step up in trip will swing things in Pond Road’s favour in the Happy St Patrick’s Day Hurdle.

Harry Whittington, who showed that he is one of the young trainers destined for the top after landing his first Festival winner with Simply The Betts at last week’s meeting, can take the finale with the former Irish pointer FRANIGANE (5.25).
