How Love Island star turned musician Wes Nelson became a millionaire by 21

Many reality stars can struggle with the fame and the quick fortune that comes with appearing on some of the UK’s most popular TV series.

But it would seem that North Staffordshire’s very own Wes Nelson has a sensible head on his shoulders.

Unlike many of his peers, Wes has been able to avoid falling into a boozy, party-led lifestyle.

And the 23-year-old former Newcastle College student has managed to invest the money he earned from his 2018 stint on Love Island to set himself up for life.

But just how did Wes manage to become a millionaire by the age of 21?

Though Wes, from Newcastle, became famous after appearing on Love Island, he had a successful career before the show.

After achieving top grades at Alsager High School and then Newcastle College, he worked as a nuclear systems design engineer.

Not much is known about his role for security reasons, but it’s believed he earned at least around £35,000 a year.

Wes dropped his day job very soon after his appearance on the ITV show. Considering how lucrative his career was after it might not have been a bad move.

Leaving Love Island at the tender age of 20, Wes is reported to have made £300,000 on a 56 date tour of personal appearances in clubs across the UK, that included a stop at Chicago’s in Hanley.

He also took an endorsement deal with BohooMan.

While Wes became a regular feature of night life in the country, he also made sure he was on TV. The year after starring in Love Island, he joined Dancing on Ice and reached the final of the series.

More recently, he has appeared on Celebrity Anitues Roadshow and Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Win.

Savvy Wes then invested his appearance money in bricks and mortar to build up an impressive property portfolio.

He has since revealed he has ‘a lot’ of properties to his name, including a plush London pad for himself which has its own music studio, a foosball table, and even a couple of electric scooters parked in the open plan living room.

Since declaring himself a millionaire at the age of 21, Wes’s career has continued to soar and he’s finally been able to pursue his passion for music.

In October 2019, Wes competed in X Factor: Celebrity, alongside other cast members of Love Island, Samira Mighty, Zara McDermott and Eyal Booker. The group didn’t win the series, but less than a year later Wes scored a record deal with EMI records in 2020.

His debut singles ‘See Nobody’ and ‘Nice to Meet Ya’ have been received with critical acclaim. It’s clear Wes is focusing his career on music and this year released ‘Drive’ with Clean Bandit.

Wes Nelson invested well following his Love Island stint

Speaking about his financial success, Wes said: “I was a millionaire by the age of 21 and that’s not being a show off or anything, but it’s wise investments and understanding this life doesn’t last forever.

“I’ve been lucky to have so many shows under my belt, and I’m super grateful for that.

“I have a passive income and generational wealth, so my children, whenever they come about, they’re not going to have to work again. I don’t have to work again.”
