PLAYER RATINGS

BROWN:  Probably should have come off his line for the equaliser. The replay shows it was tough for the keeper though. He stayed on his line because he thought Legge would win the header, but the wind caught out the centre half allowing Miller a free header from close range  5

GIBBONS: Steady on his return to the side.  He’ll be hoping to keep his place even though Mitch Clark is available next week 6

LEGGE: Miller ran behind him to head home the equaliser although the defender had been one of the better players to that point  6

SMITH: Defended solidly and got the equaliser. A steady afternoon’s work after being switched back to centre half 7

MONTANO: Steady game although he had a tough task against Eisa before the Scunthorpe player went off injured just before the break.  6

JOYCE: The sponsors’ man of the match was instrumental in the first half as the Vale took control 6

CONLON: Justifying his place in the face of stiff competition in midfield. Picked out some nice passes and drove forward, but like the rest, not as effective after the break 6

BURGESS: His shot created the first goal and he looked a threat throughout that first half.  6

AMOO: Justified his return to the side when he was the best player on the pitch in the first half. Not as influential in the second 7

CULLEN: Took his goal well – remarkably his eighth in just 11 starts. 6

WORRALL:  Put some decent balls into the area, not least the corner from which Smith scored 6

SUBS:

POPE (Conlon, 78): Brought on as Vale chased a winner. He’d only been on seconds when Smith scored from the corner! 6

OYELEKE (Cullen, 82): Brought on as the extra midfielder as Vale looked to see out the game. Not on long enough for a mark.

Not used: Crookes, Taylor, Browne, Bennett, Maddison

Scunthorpe: Watson, Gabriel, McArdle, Butler, Bedeau, Butroid (Liddle, 70), McAtee, Gilliead, Perch, Eisa (Green, 42), Van Veen (Miller, 53).

Not used: Songo’o, Lawlor, Rowe, Pugh.
