Stoke City fans have delivered their verdict as they went out of the Carabao Cup at the quarter-final stage.
The Potters fell to a 3-1 loss against Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur, with goals from Gareth Bale, Ben Davies, and Harry Kane ensuring that Jose Mourinho’s men made it to the semi-final of the competition.
Jordan Thompson’s 53rd-minute strike did give Michael O’Neill’s side hope of causing an upset when it drew Stoke level, but it wasn’t to be.
O’Neill made six changes for the game, as Andy Lonergan made his Stoke debut.
And, despite the defeat, fans were overall proud of how a much-changed side performed against one of the ‘big six’ Premier League sides.
Here is their immediate reaction to the result and performance on social media.
Jonathan Davies : Decent second half. Pity that we started so slowly. I do wonder what would have happened had we had a few key players in there (Allen, Clucas, Mikel and Campbell). Big game on Saturday now. #Stoke #SCFC
Poc : The challenge isn’t to beat that Spurs side tonight, the challenge is to be playing Spurs twice a season. #scfc
Rushy : Not too disheartened with that. Always a tough game. We were better second half and it was defensive mistakes that cost us. Just hope we can get players fit now and push on. #scfc
Elliot Yates : A fantastic achievement from Stoke. We effectively played our second team through injuries against a strong Spurs side who have beaten Man Utd 6-1 this season. A very good performance and one which will give Stoke confidence #STKTOT #SCFC
James Travis : Improved 2nd half, come undone by 3 defensive errors, but overall a decent performance all things considered #scfc
Aidan : Put up a decent effort tonight and definitely didn’t disgrace ourselves. Mistakes get punished at the top level. Onto Saturday
Tracey : Good while it lasted, with a very patched up weakened team, a different story on another day unlucky boys #UpThePotters #CarabaoCup #SCFC
