Stoke manager Michael O’Neill has revealed this afternoon that Joe Allen’s surgery went well this week – but there is no time frame yet for a comeback.
The Welsh international required an operation to repair the ruptured Achilles tendon he sustained against Hull last Saturday.
“He was operated on very quickly,” O’Neill reports. “He travelled to London on Sunday and was operated on Monday and was back in the club Tuesday.
“His spirits were good. When you have influential players it’s good to have them round the building.
“I’ve said this before about the influence of Ryan Shawcross.
“Even though he hasn’t been on the pitch, it’s important he’s been around the place and Joe is very much the same.
“Good to see his spirits were good, even though he was very disappointed with the timing and nature of the injury.
“The important thing now is that we work together, him and the club, to make sure his return is as quick as possible.”
