‘It’s the home stretch now’ – Port Vale captain on play-off bid

Leon Legge says Port Vale have to be prepared for a Cheltenham side looking for revenge in Saturday’s promotion game.

Seventh-placed Vale are unbeaten in seven but face a tough task away to the Robins who are up to fourth after winning their last five games.

Vale won there 3-1 in November in the FA Cup second round but the Vale captain said: “They are having a good year.  It’s not the easiest ground to go to because it is a very tight ground, but hopefully we can get a decent result there.

“We can look at that (cup) game and go over how we won that. But they will want revenge so we have to be prepared for that.”

The Vale were hugely disappointed to drop two points by conceding a 90th-minute equaliser in Saturday’s 2-2 draw at home to Scunthorpe, but still moved up a place back into the play-off spots.

Legge said Vale have worked hard all season to have a chance of reaching the play-offs over the final ten games.

He added: “The league doesn’t lie. We put a good effort in each game, put teams under the cosh and cause upsets where we go. It’s not a bad point in the end really because it puts us into seventh place, but we have to keep going.

“We have ten games left and we have to keep plugging away and make the most of it and get some good, positive results.

“The two extra points could have really helped us out but we just take it game by game and after each game see where we end up.

“We feel we are good enough to get in there, but we can’t get too carried away. We have to take it game by game. It is the home stretch now, ten games and let’s see where it gets us.”
