James McClean pictured in air boot as Stoke City injury curse strikes again

James McClean has got his left foot in an air boot as Stoke City ‘s injury-affected season takes another hit.

McClean missed the mid-week trip to Barnsley after pulling out of training on Tuesday and an Instagram post by his wife Erin has shown the extent of the damage.

The 31-year-old midfielder has had a stop-start year on the back of being Stoke’s player of the season and has only made 17 league starts, as well as half-a-dozen appearances from the bench.

He joins Morgan Fox (hamstring), Nathan Collins (foot) and Tyrese Campbell (knee) in the sick bay, as well as Sam Clucas, who also missed out at Oakwell.

Rabbi Matondo is hoping to return to training early next week having needed a small injection while Steven Fletcher (groin) is being assessed after limping out just after half-time last night.

James McClean rests up after suffering an injury in training for Stoke City.

Only two players have played more than 2,000 minutes for Stoke this season; Harry Souttar and Nick Powell.

John Obi Mikel, Angus Gunn, Adam Davies, Joe Allen and Ryan Shawcross have all spent a significant time in the treatment room.

Stoke head to Brentford this weekend hoping to rebound from defeat at Oakwell and pick up their first win in London since 2014.
