Just nine new Covid-19 cases confirmed in Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire



Just nine new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire in the last 24 hour update – new figures reveal.

Public Health England have confirmed just four more cases in Stoke-on-Trent, bringing the city’s total up to 833 since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In the Staffordshire County Council area – which is all of Staffordshire except the city – just five more cases have been confirmed, taking the total there to 2,331.

The new cases include two in Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough, one in the Staffordshire Moorlands, one in Stafford Borough and one elsewhere in the county.  As always of course the actual number of untested cases will be higher.

As of 5.30pm this afternoon, Monday June 15, NHS England has not reported any further deaths at hospitals in North Staffordshire.

There have been 323 deaths involving coronavirus recorded at Royal Stoke University Hospital and Stafford’s County Hospital since the start of the pandemic.

There have also been no further reported deaths at Harplands Hospital or hospitals that form the Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust including Haywood, Leek, Cheadle and Bradwell.

UK Overview:

The Department of Health and Social Care said 41,736 people had died in hospitals, care homes and the wider community after testing positive for coronavirus in the UK as of 5pm on Sunday, up by 38 from 41,698 the day before.

The Government figures do not include all deaths involving Covid-19 across the UK, which is thought to have passed 52,000.

The DHSC also said in the 24-hour period up to 9am on Monday, 93,163 tests were carried out or dispatched, with 1,056 positive results.

Overall, a total of 6,866,481 tests have been carried out and 296,857 cases have been confirmed positive.

The figure for the number of people tested has been “temporarily paused to ensure consistent reporting” across all methods of testing.
