Michael O’Neill made three changes for today’s game as Stoke took to the pitch with James Chester in for Nathan Collins at centre half, Jordan Cousins stepping in for Jordan Thompson in midfield and Sam Vokes getting the nod over Tyrese Campbell in attack.
It was a huge fixture here at Kenilworth Road with Luton and Stoke among the nine apparent candidates for the drop.
And here’s how we rated them…
JACK BUTLAND: Decent reactions when required first half and a bit of luck with disallowed goal second half before being left helpless by penalty 6
TOMMY SMITH: Deserved the day’s opening goal really and defended pretty well thereafter 7
BRUNO MARTINS INDI: Comfortably until substitutions left him up against greater pace down the Luton right 6
DANNY BATTH: One great recovery tackle first half and impressed again second en route to what should have been a third successive clean sheet 7
JAMES CHESTER: Looked pretty much in control of things on his return to the side until that fateful late challenge to concede the penalty 6
JORDAN COUSINS: Preferred to Thompson and was a stout presence in front of the back four with the kind of challenge which started the move for Stoke goal 7
JOE ALLEN: Worked his socks off in the midfield exchanges and will be among those aggrieved by the final scoreline 7
SAM CLUCAS: Excellent mopping up duties, bar one slip second half, and another wondering where those two points went 7
TOM INCE: Missed great chances in first and second half to help put the game to bed 6
SAM VOKES: Soon justified recall with early goal and tried to put himself around thereafter before being hooked with 20 go 7
NICK POWELL: A few juicy moments, but no headlines, not after slicing good chance wide just before being subbed 6
GREGORY (for Vokes,72): Fresh legs to try and buy time in the Luton half 5
THOMPSON (for Powell,75): Unlucky to lose his place, but ended the game in the thick of it 5
COLLINS (for Ince,85): Added insurance at the back after losing his place before kick off 5
Subs not used: Davies, Lindsay, Oakley-Boothe, Campbell.
