‘Knight that man!’ – Stoke City fans on Nick Powell, Hull support and two January signings

It was a pivotal match for Stoke City and they end the day in their highest position of the season so far.

A resounding 5-1 win over Hull, who they send crashing to fourth from bottom while climbing to 17th themselves.

There are still nine games remaining and still just a cigarette paper between a handful of clubs.

But tonight, Stoke fans are smiling.

And the verdicts have been coming in thick and fast on almost all areas, as well as that outpouring of love for Joe Allen.

Ant Bunn: Thought those that ventured down from Hull were superb. Not ****ed about numbers, their non-stop singing deserved that one mental. Sang for the whole game and justly gave stick out at the end of each half. We’ve all walked a mile in those shoes, and I’ve got full respect for them.

Pete O’Connell: Of all the positive things about MON his recruitment of Jordan Thompson is the most encouraging. Didn’t cost much & he has undoubtedly improved the team. Hope he has a few more of those up his sleeve for next season.

Rich Carter: Good win for Stoke. Don’t overdo the highs if you remember the lows last week. Allen injury sounds bad. Speedy recovery.

Robin Evans: Great result that, especially with scores elsewhere going our way as well. Seventh home win in 11 games under MON – feels like it’s starting to become a bit of a fortress again.

Lloyd Reddin: Strangest 5-1 victory ever, didn’t really get out of second gear. Nick Powell is ace, seriously knight that man! Hull are doomed!

Danny Penfold: I like Jordan Thompson, his dead ball delivery is much needed. Genuinely think we will score from every in swinging corner we take.

Will Meigh: Nick Powell is gravy though isn’t he. He’s quickly become a fans’ favourite and one of the main reasons we have a chance of staying up. Baller.

Adam Boulton: When was the last time we had an actual centre-midfielder score double figures in a season?

Andy Naylor: Hull must be wretched although in fairness to Michael O’Neill it has been some turnaround since he replaced Nathan Jones. Only Fulham have taken more points than Stoke over the last 12 games in the Championship.

Rob Doolan: That rare beast, the thumping! Perhaps more workmanlike than explosive, this was essentially shooting fish in a barrel, though the barrel does offer the fish a basic level of protection that Hull’s defence failed to provide at any stage.

Tashan Oakley-Boothe’s cameo and assist was a bright moment of a fairly processional second half. Initially lost in a deeper role, he came alive when pushed further forward, showing quick feet and playing with his head up. Hopefully he is Powell’s heir.

There are hints that the future looks brighter – hopefully we have enough in the present to get us over the line.

Wizards of Drivel: Well, that was fine. Pre-match nerves disappeared when it became clear it was men against boys. The big negative is Joe’s injury. Not blaming the injury on this, but Hull we’re allowed to basically kick us by a too lenient ref who took pity on them.

The Oatcake Fanzine: A big win for Stoke against a hopeless Hull team and a result that we think will secure our place in the Championship. As ever though, there has to be a downside to everything good and the injury to Joe Allen is a real blow.

Our best wishes go out to Joe of course, but this may affect us down the line in our attempts to strengthen the team in the summer with the FFP restrictions.

But let’s just enjoy today’s result. It’s taken a massive amount of pressure off us and it’s now inconceivable that we will finish in the bottom three.
