Latest from Port Vale amid speculation EFL could suspend games

Port Vale are waiting for the result of an EFL meeting this morning amid speculation games could be suspended.

Both the EFL and Premier League are meeting to decide the latest move in response to coronavirus.

Vale are due to play Crawley tomorrow at Vale Park. Assistant manager Dave Kevan says he would love to play, but people’s health and safety is the most important consideration.

He said: “If the powers that be believe that is the right thing to do for everyone’s health and safety, then obviously that is the most important decision.”

Speaking at Vale’s Friday morning press conference, Kevan said, as things stand,  no Vale players have been diagnosed with the virus or had needed to go into self-isolation.

However he said the situation is ongoing and the club and management are waiting for the latest guidelines from the authorities.

Some games in Europe have been played behind closed doors this week but Kevan isn’t in favour of that.

He added: “Personally I would rather not, I think the game is there for the supporters. The players react off the supporters so they go hand in hand. Football news to be played in front of fans.”
